Ma (in-between)

The Japanese concept of ma (間) assigns subjecthood to the tension between two entities. It suggests that the subject exists not in the human or the external world but in a third dimension - the dialogue between them. The in-between does not distinguish between humans, non-humans, nature, and man-made objects; rather, it represents a new nature of intelligence that emarges in the space between.

Skyspace

In Skyspace, James Turrell creates an architectural aperture where sky, light, and time merge in a single perceptual experience. A square or circular opening in the ceiling frames the sky, not as an object to observe, but as a presence that continuously shifts. Inside, silence prevails, allowing the viewer’s act of seeing itself to become the focus.
